A Day Out at the Park: Fixated 2025 by Ludek

Hey everyone! Paul here. I’m happy to feature another cycling-passionate photographer here on SSS. I met Ludek (a.k.a. @_ludography on Instagram) at the Fixed Camp in Rotterdam a few months ago, and I noticed he was shooting the event with not one, but two film cameras! So of course, I had to ask if he’d be up for being featured. It’s always great to meet people doing similar things to what you do, and I really hope we’ll see more of his work here soon. Enjoy!

PS: I was supposed to have some shots too, but the lab messed my roll, so I’m even happier that Ludek did some snaps.

Fixed gear cycling made me do it all. Since the day I picked up a camera, I have been photographing fixed gear events, meeting new people through the hobby, and documenting the growing scene in the Netherlands, to make sure this unique chapter of cycling history is remembered. One of the people I met by chance was Ritchie Van Pelt, one of the organizers of The Fixated comp, who invited me to the second edition of the competition.

Last year's FGFS comp, organized by Fixated, was an unforgettable experience for me. The amazing performances of the riders, the backdrop of a hyped crowd of friends, fans, and bystanders, as well as the beautiful scenery of the chosen location, made for photos I love and proudly display on the walls of my room to this day.

The photos from last time that really stood out as great to me were the ones I took zoomed out all the way to 16mm. The wide angle and proximity to the riders conveyed best the momentum that they carried through the tricks. This year, I wanted to replicate this success but up the ante by shooting the event both on film and digitally. I stuck my newly purchased 17 mm lens on the Nikkormat and got as close to the bikes as I could without getting hit. I filled the action I missed last time by being too far away using the EF 24-70, sitting on either the EOS R or the EOS 30.

I’m quite happy with how the photos turned out.  As tradition goes, I already reserved some wall space for this new batch…
